Merry Edwards Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Merry Edwards Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a vibrant, richly textured and deeply aromatic white from one of California's most celebrated pioneering estates. Fermented entirely in French oak and aged on lees for six months, this is a Sauvignon Blanc of real complexity, weight and distinction, a world away from the crisp, unoaked style and all the better for it. Why You'll Love It Merry Edwards has been a pioneering Californian winemaker since 1977, blending scientific expertise with artistic vision. Renowned for her clonal research, her UCD37 Merry Edwards Selection has been a benchmark in the Russian River Valley since 1975. Certified Sustainable since 2017 and entirely vegan-friendly, the estate employs environmentally conscious viticulture, cover crops, insect-friendly flower borders, deficit irrigation and full recycling of green waste. This Sauvignon Blanc is the white wine expression of that same commitment to quality and place. Vineyard & Production Grapes are grown sustainably across carefully managed Russian River Valley vineyards, with meticulous soil management and water conservation. The wine is fermented entirely in French oak barrels, 18% new from Cadus, and aged with biweekly lees stirring for six months, building texture, richness and mouthfeel while preserving the variety's vibrant aromatic character. Tasting Notes Golden-green in colour with an aromatic nose of tangerine, guava, honeydew, cantaloupe, white blossom and marzipan. On the palate, sweet oak balances crisp acidity, while a juicy finish delivers a hint of zesty grapefruit. Rich, layered and beautifully composed. Perfect Pairings A natural partner for rich seafood dishes, grilled lobster, scallops and black cod. Also excellent with Thai and Asian-spiced dishes, soft cheeses and roasted chicken. A classic match for Kaffir lime and coconut soup with black cod. The Blend Sauvignon Blanc Shenandoah 65%, Sauvignon Musque 35%
Puligny-Montrachet Les Charmes, Domaine Alain Chavy 2021
The Chavy family has been rooted in Puligny for nearly 200 years, but their modern legacy began in 1976 when Gérard Chavy chose to stop selling grapes to négociants and started bottling wine under his own label. In 2003, Gérard's sons, Alain and Jean-Louis, parted ways due to differing winemaking philosophies, each establishing their own domaines. Alain Chavy now cultivates 7 hectares, including some of Puligny's most prestigious Premier Cru vineyards. Known for his restrained style, Alain’s focus on purity of fruit has quickly elevated his domaine to a gem within the appellation. With a minimal intervention approach and an emphasis on freshness, Alain crafts wines defined by purity, precision, and tension. His vineyards are sustainably farmed, with all cuvées hand-harvested and barrel-fermented at low temperatures—Alain’s secret to preserving depth, complexity, and energy in his wines.
