MEURSAULT Rouge Clos des Mouches Domaine Henri Germain 2021
First picked, 12.4%. Planted in 1949. A smoother softer red fruit than the Chassagne, on the nose, with a colour which has a purple shade to the crimson. Stays fresh, treads lightly and is quite delicious – well worth seeking out for a lighter lunchtime Burgundy.
SAVIGNY LES BEAUNE 1er Cru Gravains Domaine Henri Germain 2021
(from a .57 ha parcel; Germain noted that there was no frost damage as they pruned it very late). A perfumed and very pretty nose reflects notes of plum, dark currant, violet and a touch of earth. There is excellent energy suffusing the beautifully detailed and lightly stony middleweight flavors that also conclude in a moderately austere, sneaky long and balanced finale. As is usually the case with a typical Gravains, this classically styled effort will need at least a few years of cellaring to unwind.
