Passitivo Appassimento Primitivo Organico Organic 2023

Passitivo Primitivo Organic Appassimento is a rich and expressive wine from southern Puglia, crafted from carefully selected Primitivo grapes. Deep ruby in colour, it opens with ripe cherry and black cherry aromas, complemented by spicy notes and hints of coconut and chocolate. The palate is well-structured and smooth, with elegant tannins and a lingering finish of forest fruits. Why You'll Love It This is organic Appassimento winemaking at its finest. Using the traditional "Il giro del Picciolo" technique, the stems are choked before harvest to naturally dehydrate the berries for 12 days, concentrating aromas and sugars without removing the grapes from the vine. Hand-harvested from clay-rich soils using the traditional "Alberello Basso" bush vine method, the wine is aged for five months in second-use American oak barriques and six months in stainless steel. Certified organic and crafted by winemaker Nicola Leo, it's an exceptional expression of Puglia terroir with remarkable depth and complexity. Meet the Producer Winemaker Nicola Leo focuses on organic viticulture and traditional techniques that respect the land and express the unique terroir of Apulia. The estate combines careful vineyard management with innovative methods like pre-harvest drying to concentrate flavours and enhance complexity. Production Primitivo grapes are hand-harvested from clay-rich soils in the Brindisi province using the "Alberello Basso" bush vine training method. A pre-harvest drying technique, "Il giro del Picciolo," chokes the stems to naturally dehydrate the berries for 12 days, concentrating aromas and sugars. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation takes place at 22–25°C for 8–10 days with frequent pumping over and délestage to enhance colour, aroma, and soft tannins. Malolactic fermentation follows. The wine is aged for five months in second-use American oak barriques and six months in stainless steel tanks, balancing richness, structure, and freshness. Renato Ratti Dolcetto D'Alba DOC 2016

Langhe Dolcetto DOC is a fresh, fragrant red wine representing a constant presence on the tables of the Langhe region. Known for its perfect balance of moderate tannins and a pleasantly bitter finish, this Dolcetto is both approachable and versatile. The grapes are sourced from vineyards across the Langhe, with a significant portion coming from Dogliani, cultivated at 500 metres above sea level—an area celebrated for its strong Dolcetto tradition. Meet the Producer The historical “soldier” label, created by Renato Ratti, honours the heroism of Piedmontese regiments in the 18th century. Bottled in the iconic Albeisa bottle, designed by Ratti in 1973, the wine reflects the uniqueness of Alba and its surrounding terroir. Production Grapes are hand-picked in September, de-stemmed, and gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with roughly one week of skin contact. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in steel containers, preserving the wine’s freshness, fragrance, and natural acidity. Tasting Notes Langhe Dolcetto DOC displays a ruby red colour with vivid violet highlights. The nose is aromatic, revealing scents of cherry, ripe plum, and subtle floral notes. On the palate, it is balanced, fresh, and lightly tannic, with a fragrant, vinous character and a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. Food Pairing An ideal everyday wine, Langhe Dolcetto DOC pairs beautifully with Italian-style antipasti, pasta dishes, and fresh cheeses. Its moderate alcohol and vibrant freshness make it perfect for both casual and traditional meals.
