Peculiar Mr Pat Merlot 2025
Peculiar Mr Pat Merlot is a bright, plush, and deeply tasty Australian Merlot from Riverland vineyards along the banks of the Murray River, Australia's largest river, near the bustling inland town of Mildura. The name pays tribute to Mr Pat, a most particular wombat: orphaned, beaten up by his wild wombat mates, taken in by Ballarat Wildlife Park, wheelbarrowed around for weight reasons, and adored the world over. Produced by Boutinot Australia under the care of winemaker Samantha Bailey, this is abundant in freshly picked red fruit with a soft tannic profile and a long, moreish finish. Why You'll Love It This is Riverland Merlot from Boutinot Australia, crafted by winemaker Samantha Bailey from vineyards that thrive in the Mediterranean climate along the banks of the Murray River near Mildura, the heart of Australia's food bowl. The ancient, sandy soils are enriched with recycled organic matter from other local crops, and the vines are carefully tended to make the most of every precious drop of water. Speckled light reaches through lush green vine canopies to ensure the berries ripen steadily throughout late summer in time for an autumn harvest. Minimal winemaking intervention preserves the natural fruit character and makes this wine suitable for vegetarians, vegans, and pescatarians. At 13.5% ABV with a screwcap closure, this is Australian Merlot with charm, freshness, and effortless drinkability. Rothschild Pays d'Oc Syrah 2020
'Baron Philippe de Rothschild's winemakers have decided to combine the two terroirs that offer the best conditions for this early variety. The mediterranean terroir combines gravelly soil with a hot climate tempered by sea breezes to give wines with concentrated,super-ripe fruit flavours, body and substance. The oceanic terroir moderates this richness: with a damp climate tempered by hot spells and deep, predominantly clay-limestone soil, its wines bring out merlot's fresher notes.'
