Vergelegen Chardonnay Reserve 2023
The Reserve Range highlights Vergelegen’s terroir and varietal character. The label, featuring the estate’s elegant front gates, welcomes wine lovers to explore the estate through its refined bottlings. Winemaking Hand-harvested and carefully sorted, the grapes are largely whole-bunch pressed, with a small proportion destemmed before pressing. Fermentation takes place in barrel, using a combination of wild and cultured yeasts, with varying levels of solids to enhance complexity. Partial malolactic fermentation and regular bâtonnage add texture, before the wine spends 10 months in French oak of varying sizes, toasts and ages. Tasting Notes Barrel-fermented and grown on ancient granite soils, this Chardonnay shows a lemony yellow-green hue. Aromas of zesty citrus, spice and delicate citrus blossom are layered with subtle notes of buttered toast, framed by freshness and elegance. Food Pairing Superb with roast chicken, seared scallops or creamy pasta dishes.
