Polgoon Wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc 2024

Polgoon Wild Ferment Sauvignon Blanc is a vibrant, small‑batch Cornish white that showcases the character of Polgoon’s coastal vineyards and their commitment to minimal‑intervention winemaking. Grown on south‑facing slopes overlooking Mount’s Bay, the fruit benefits from long daylight hours, cooling sea breezes and well‑drained soils that naturally enhance freshness and aromatic lift. Fermented with wild yeasts from the vineyard and winery, the wine develops layers of texture and complexity while retaining the bright, zesty purity that defines Polgoon’s style. Why You’ll Love It This is Sauvignon Blanc with a distinctly Cornish accent is fresh, expressive and full of coastal energy. The wild ferment adds subtle depth and savoury nuance, making it more characterful than many classic examples while still delivering the crisp vibrancy fans of the grape love. Meet the Producer Polgoon is a family‑run vineyard and orchard on the outskirts of Penzance, known for its sustainable approach and hands‑on craftsmanship. Since planting their first vines in the mid‑2000s, they’ve become one of Cornwall’s most respected producers, celebrated for wines that reflect the region’s maritime climate and unique terroir. Production Grapes are hand‑picked at peak ripeness and pressed gently to preserve aromatic delicacy. Fermentation is carried out using only the wild yeasts naturally present on the grape skins and in the winery, allowing the wine to develop its own individual character. Ageing on fine lees adds texture and subtle complexity without diminishing freshness. Tasting Notes Aromas of gooseberry, lime zest and elderflower mingle with hints of fresh herbs and a touch of sea spray. The palate is crisp and lively, offering citrus, green apple and subtle tropical notes, supported by a clean mineral edge. The finish is bright, refreshing and lightly textured from the wild ferment. Perfect Pairings Excellent with fresh seafood, grilled mackerel, goat’s cheese salads, asparagus, sushi

Vergelegen Estate White 2023

The flagship white of Vergelegen, this blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon reflects the estate’s most prized vineyard sites. The Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from the windswept slopes of the Schaapenberg, while the Semillon comes from the farm’s oldest vineyard blocks, rooted in shale and alluvial soils. Winemaking Hand-picked and carefully sorted, the grapes were whole-bunch pressed and fermented in a mix of barrels and foudres. The Sauvignon Blanc component received skin contact prior to pressing, while both varieties underwent partial malolactic fermentation. After 10 months in oak of varying ages, the final blend was assembled to create a wine of depth, elegance and precision. Tasting Notes Elegant and refined with mineral overtones and a flinty core, lifted by bright lemon, crushed rosemary and crisp apple. Complex and structured, with a long, polished finish. Blend 56% Sauvignon Blanc, 44% Semillon Food Pairing Excellent with grilled seafood, herb-crusted chicken or creamy risotto.
