POMMARD 1er Cru Rugiens Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot 2016
(from a .65 ha holding located in both Bas and Hauts that is apportioned roughly 50/50). A moderately reduced nose definitely needs air so if you’re going to try a bottle in the near-term, do aerate it well. The middle weight plus flavors possess better density and richness than the 2017 version along with equally evident minerality on the youthfully austere finish that flashes a touch of asperity but not really overt dryness. It’s not clear if this will eventually round out as I suspect that it will always have a mild edge to it.
VOLNAY 1er Cru Mitans Domaine Nicolas Rossignol 2019
(from Mitans proper). A cool, pure and extremely pretty nose freely offers up its array of violet, rose petal, spice and mix of red cherry and dark raspberry scents. The refined and equally pure middle weight flavors possess a delicate, even lacy, mouthfeel along with a subtle minerality. This is textbook Mitans.
