Pont de Gassac Blanc 2023
' In 1971, Veronique and Aime Guibert bought a Mas (farmhouse) and abandoned mill in the heart of a beautiful, wild valley through which flowed the Gassac river. After consulting Prof. Henri Enjalbert they planted vines in clearings in the middle of 4,000 hectares of forest - he was convinced they had the ''terroir'' to produce a Grand Cru of the future. The first vintage of their flagship red was produced in 1978 from roughly 80% Cabernet Sauvignon. By 1982, a respected French wine guide described Mas de Daumas Gassac as the Chateau Lafite of the Languedoc. The Rose Frizant was created in 1981, also from the younger Cabernet vines. Today, the children of the Guibert family manage the estate, storing their harvests in an old cellar underneath the original mill. The five brothers have continued to fine tune the Mas de Daumas Gassac's Grand Vin and broaden the range with varietal wines and blends that offer great value for money under their Moulin de Gassac label. Spier Seaward Sauvignon Blanc 2023
Seaward grapes are selected from South Africa's top coastal areas, growing in a narrow band close to the cold Atlantic ocean and the temperate waters of False Bay. Such terroir provides what you might call a perfect storm - with barely any human intervention needed to produce outstanding harvests for our winemakers, every year. Dryland, trellised vines with an average age of 15 years yielded the grapes for this wine. Moderate summers with low night temperatures and cold winters create a perfect micro-climate for Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Spier is one of South Africa's oldest wine farms with a recorded winemaking history dating back to 1692. The winemaking team is committed to crafting wines truly expressive of their terroir, with minimal interference. While rooted in this heritage, they have a vibrant and conscious energy. Their Growing for Good initiatives empower communities to make positive social and environmental change. Ranging from art and entrepreneurship to regenerative farming and ecological restoration, these projects and partnerships are creating a ripple effect of lasting and meaningful impact.
