Teaninich 2008 Cask 710888 11 Year Old Single Malt Whisky Berry Bros & Rudd
This is a firm, nutty and fruity malt with bruised apples and sugar-sprinkled baked pastry emerging on the nose. The mouth-feel expands nicely to deliver cider apples and toasted crumpet notes, with a dash of honey to bind it nicely. This is full, fruity and malty to the last with a good long finish. Teaninich is to be found near the Cromarty Firth in the North East Highlands. Founded in 1817 by Captain High Munro, the distillery produces malt whisky in high demand from blenders. The mashing process is different here as they use a mash filter rather than the conventional mash tun to extract the worts. Distilled in 2008, drawn from Cask #710888 after ageing for 11 years and bottled in 2019 by Berry Bros. & Rudd
Wolfburn Lightly Peated Cask Strength 7 Year Old 2022
Wolfburn Lightly Peated Cask Strength 7 Year Old is a bold and richly rewarding limited release from Scotland's northernmost mainland distillery, crafted from lightly peated spirit matured in a hand-selected combination of Oloroso sherry butts and ex-bourbon quarter casks. Bottled at natural cask strength of 58.2% ABV without chill filtration, it is sweet, aromatic, and sumptuous in character, with the gentle thread of peat smoke adding an extra dimension of complexity. A thoroughly exceptional dram. Why You'll Love It This is Wolfburn at its most concentrated and expressive. The pairing of Oloroso sherry butts and ex-bourbon quarter casks has done an astonishing job of producing a smooth and rounded whisky in just seven years, with the smaller quarter cask format accelerating maturation and adding an extra layer of oak integration. Bottled at cask strength without chill filtration, every nuance of the sherry richness, bourbon sweetness, and gentle peat smoke is preserved exactly as intended. Sweet, complex, and deeply satisfying, this is a bottle that punches well above its age. Distillery & Maturation Wolfburn Distillery was established in 2013 in Thurso, Caithness, on the site of the original Wolfburn Distillery that operated in the 1820s, making it Scotland's northernmost mainland distillery. This 2022 release is crafted from lightly peated spirit matured in a hand-selected combination of Oloroso sherry butts and ex-bourbon quarter casks, bottled at natural cask strength of 58.2% ABV without chill filtration. Tasting Notes The nose is sweet and aromatic, with Oloroso sherry richness, soft bourbon vanilla, and a gentle waft of peat smoke. On the palate, it is smooth and rounded for its cask strength, with layers of dark fruit, toffee, and warming spice from the sherry casks, underpinned by a soft, lingering peat smoke from the lightly peated spirit. The finish is long and satisfying, with the sherry sweetness and gentle smoke fading gracefully. Best enjoyed neat
