Tomintoul 1966 40 Year Old Sherry Cask Single Malt Whisky
This single cask single malt scotch was distilled at the Tomintoul Distillery in the Speyside region (Livet District) on 27 October 1966 and was bottled in May 2007. Bottled by Iain Mackillop as part of the Mackillop's Choice. Matured in sherry wood casks and bottled at cask strength 41.5%. Lorne Mackillop is descended from one of the survivors of the massacre of the Mackillops Clan at the hands of the English Redcoats in 1745. Lorne is heir to the head of the Mackillop Clan. He is a Master of Wine of which there are very few world wide and in the last few years he has used his extensive training and skill in the choice of the Scotch whiskies. With this expertise he has selected the finest single casks of malt whisky. It is from one of these casks that this bottle has been taken and Lorne is pleased it bears his family name. On the nose it is melon, fresh green apple and sweet grape full of citrus sweet notes. On the palate it is honey, heather, banana, bitter and savoury with a mild honey like finish.
