Vina Cobos Marchiori Estate Malbec
Vina Cobos Marchiori Estate Malbec is a prestigious single-vineyard Malbec from one of Argentina's most celebrated wineries. Sourced from the historic Marchiori Estate vineyard, home to cane-pruned vines over 50 years old, this wine represents the pinnacle of Argentine Malbec. Block C2 of this vineyard supplied the grapes for Vina Cobos' inaugural 1999 vintage, establishing the estate's legendary reputation. The vines form deep root systems in well-drained soils ranging from loamy-clay to loamy-sand, with layers of pebbles and rounded stones below the surface enhancing mineral complexity. Why You'll Love It This is world-class red wine from Vina Cobos, founded by renowned winemaker Paul Hobbs. Awarded 97 points by James Suckling and sourced from vines over 60 years old, this wine offers exceptional depth, structure and ageing potential. The historic Marchiori Estate vineyard has been instrumental in defining premium Argentine wine since Vina Cobos' founding. Aged 18 months in French and American oak, this is a collector-worthy bottle that will reward cellaring for years to come. Meet the Producer Vina Cobos, founded by acclaimed winemaker Paul Hobbs, is one of Argentina's most prestigious wineries, dedicated to producing world-class Malbec from exceptional vineyard sites. The Marchiori Estate has been central to their success since the inaugural 1999 vintage. Winemaking The Malbec is aged for 18 months in a combination of new French oak and second-use barrels (48% new oak), allowing rich fruit and structural depth to develop while maintaining balance and elegance. Tasting Notes Deep ruby red in colour with intense aromas of cherries, cedar and subtle graphite. On the palate, full-bodied, rich and rounded with a taut structure, chewy tannins and a long, persistent finish. Floral and perfumed with purple fruit, mushrooms and a hint of stems. Perfect Pairings Pairs beautifully with semi-hard cheeses, cured meats, lamb chops, grilled steaks and hearty meat stews. An exc
Volnay Premier Cru 'Santenots du Milieu', Domaine Clos de la Chapelle 2022
Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris. We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these wines. "Another "Tête de Cuvée" for Clos de la Chapelle according to Lavalle’s classification, this is still today decidedly one of Volnay’s very finest sites. Leroy, Jacques Prieur and Comtes Lafon also have holdings. Bright robe, deeply spicy, lightly charry nose, raspberry and griddled red plum at core, with cedar, stone dust, and iris notes and hints of smoked pancetta, cumin, dry bark, green peppercorns and roasted rosemary. This would make rather a sophisticated cologne. Attack is succulent displaying riper berry fruits than the nose with waves of spicy, inky, smoky fruit cascading over the mid-palate, drawn by long, energetic tannins that ensure precision and length."
