VOLNAY 1er Cru Roncerets Domaine Nicolas Rossignol 2020
A mentholated top note is present on the almost as spicy nose of black currant, violet and warm earth scents. The succulent and impressively voluminous larger-scaled flavors possess a taut muscularity before culminating in a serious, equally compact and more powerful finish. This isn’t nearly as refined as the Caillerets though it is just as complex and notably more powerful. A qualitative choice though the intrinsic character of the two wines is very different.

Very ripe aromas of cassis, black berry liqueur, violet and anise precede the equally broad-shouldered flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the powerful, hugely long and very serious finish that is shaped by a markedly firm tannic spine. This is a buy and forget you own it wine as I would suggest not touching a bottle for at least 10 years. With that said, this is most impressive.
