Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. An ancient Beaujolais estate whose origins date back to the 16th century, Château Thivin was purchased in 1877 by Zaccharie Geoffray and his wife Marguerite Bernard. Since then, the estate, located in Odenas, on the slopes of the Brouilly hill, has remained in the hands of the Geoffray family, now in its sixth generation, and still produces some of the finest wines of the area. The company's most prestigious wine, which pays homage to the founder Zaccharie Geoffray, is produced with Gamay Noir grapes harvested by hand in the best plots of the Côte de Brouilly, and especially in the oldest vineyards La Chapelle and Godefroy where the vines have an average age of 50 years. Here the vines enjoy a soil composed of porphyry stones and clay characterized by excellent drainage. After vinification, the wines are aged separately in a mix of new and used barrels for 10-11 months before blending. The Cote de Brouilly Cuvee Zaccharie reveals a deep and brilliant color with ruby tones and a fruity and fragrant aromatic profile with notes of blackcurrant, ripe cherry, and blackberry followed by hints of sweet spices. On the palate, it is round and soft, complex and concentrated, with fine tannins and a well-balanced acidity. The finish is long and slightly spicy. It goes well with roast pork, grilled duck breast, and Comté cheese.
