The highly anticipated single grain whisky endorsed by David Beckham is produced at Cameronbridge distillery. This whisky is crafted using a blend of first-fill, rejuvenated, and refill bourbon barrel-matured whiskies. Beckham, alongside Simon Fuller, plays a significant role in the development of the Haig Club brand. The legacy of the Haig family is steeped in history, with Robert Haig famously encountering trouble for distilling on the Sabbath in 1655. John Haig founded Cameronbridge in 1824, and soon after, a continuous still designed by Robert Stein, John's uncle, was installed for grain whisky production. This occurred just a few years before Aeneas Coffey patented his renowned version of the continuous still. Cameronbridge's grain whisky naturally became central to the popular Haig blended whiskies. Today, the Haig brand has been revitalised for a new generation and emerging markets. While the world of grain whisky can seem daunting to some, Haig Club is leading the way. The aroma reveals subtleties that might not be immediately apparent, featuring notes of apple crumble, expressed lemon peel, and a hint of mango, alongside millionaire’s shortbread, banoffee pie, coconut milk, dried grass, orange Turkish delight, and cardamom. On the palate, it delivers flavours of toffee and vanilla with pleasing oak notes. Fresh banana, perfectly balanced and non-artificial, is accompanied by nuances of nougat and honeycomb. The finish is marked by praline, cinnamon, and a touch of ginger, with a subtle hint of cardamom reemerging. Overall, this whisky presents as approachable and adaptable with a good mouthfeel. Adding ice enhances its texture, creating a highly accessible whisky enriched with delightful spices, toffee, and an evolving presence of tropical fruit notes.
