Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu The London Edition 2025 is the eighth release in this highly coveted series of Japanese single malt whiskies, crafted exclusively for the UK market. Distilled at the renowned Chichibu Distillery in Saitama Prefecture, just 100 kilometres from Tokyo, this expression continues the legacy of Ichiro Akuto, whose family has a long-standing history in Japanese alcohol production. Since its founding in 2008, Chichibu has become synonymous with elegance, precision and innovation in whisky-making. The 2025 edition is a blend of ten carefully selected casks, including two of heavily peated spirit. The majority of the whisky was matured in ex-bourbon barrels, which lend a gentle sweetness and vibrant fruit character, while two Oloroso sherry casks contribute layers of dried fruit and warming spice. Compared to previous editions, this release offers a deeper, more oak-driven profile with seamlessly integrated peat smoke, resulting in a whisky that is both complex and harmonious. On the nose, it opens with bright notes of mandarin and ginger, softened by vanilla custard and a subtle wisp of smoke. The palate is rich and expressive, revealing flavours of candied citrus, dark chocolate and brown sugar, followed by a lingering finish of dried fruits and baking spices.
