About this wine
Chateau de Pez 2019 is a refined and elegantly structured Saint-Estephe from one of the oldest domains in the Medoc, dating back to the 15th century and now owned by Champagne Louis Roederer since 1995. Crafted from 70 individual vineyard plots with a parcellaire approach, aged 12 months in barrel and fined with egg whites, this is a Bordeaux of real precision, energy and longevity. Rated 93 points by Jane Anson. Why You'll Love It Created in the 15th century by the Pontac family, Chateau de Pez is Saint-Estephe's oldest domain, passing through various owners before Champagne Louis Roederer acquired it in 1995 and brought modernisation while respecting the estate's traditional winemaking heritage. The 48-hectare estate surrounds the Chateau across 70 individual plots, enabling a meticulous parcellaire approach to viticulture that allows each parcel to be vinified separately and blended for maximum complexity and precision. The 2019 vintage was exceptional, with a mild, dry winter, early bud break, slow ripening under sunny conditions with cool nights, and a healthy harvest from 16 September to 8 October. Vineyard & Production Grapes are hand-selected from 70 vineyard plots surrounding the Chateau. Fermentation takes place in traditional oak vats or conical stainless steel vats to allow softer tannin extraction. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels, 35% new oak, with racking every three months. No filtration is applied and the wine is fined with egg whites for finesse before bottling. Tasting Notes Hints of liquorice and golden tobacco on the nose lead to redcurrant, blackberry and floral iris aromas. The palate is smooth and precise, with raspberry and blackberry fruit, well-integrated grainy tannins, energy and great length, finishing with savoury balance and subtle sweetness. Perfect Pairings A natural partner for roast lamb, red meats, truffle dishes and fine cheeses. Also excellent with dark chocolate and slow-braised game. The Blend Cabernet Sauvignon, Mer
