About this wine
Quinta da Roêda is a sweeping terraced vineyard on the north bank of the Douro River, just upstream from Pinhão, and is long regarded as one of the finest estates in the Douro Valley. Acquired by Croft in 1889, the property was extensively renovated with replanting throughout the first half of the 20th century. Since Croft’s incorporation into The Fladgate Partnership, the estate has benefited from further major investment, including the construction of traditional lagares to allow foot treading—a method still considered unsurpassed for extracting the richest flavours in Vintage Ports. Quinta da Roêda lies at the heart of Croft’s distinctive style, producing Ports that are scented, exotic, and crammed with luscious, opulent fruit. In years when a Vintage Port is not declared, Croft may select the best wines from Quinta da Roêda and release them as a Single Quinta, showcasing the purity and unique character of this terroir. Meet the Producer Croft has been producing Ports for generations in the Douro Valley, combining traditional methods with careful vineyard management to craft wines of remarkable richness, balance, and ageing potential. On the palate, it is well balanced with volume and firm tannins, showing attractive fruit flavours that are slightly closed but promise excellent development with further ageing. Food & Serving Single Quinta Ports should be decanted before serving, particularly as they are typically aged for over a decade and will throw sediment.
