Fonseca Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) is a rich and expressive Port, crafted from grapes sourced from Fonseca’s own vineyards and other premium properties in the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior regions. Designed as a more approachable alternative to Vintage Port, LBV offers depth, complexity, and ready-to-drink enjoyment without sacrificing the house’s signature richness and structure. Meet the producer Fonseca is one of the most esteemed Port houses in the Douro Valley, renowned for its iconic Vintage Ports and consistent quality. Drawing on a long heritage of vineyard management and winemaking expertise, Fonseca LBV reflects the best attributes of the Douro terroir. Production The wine is made from the finest full-bodied red Port grapes and aged in large wooden vats for four to six years. Unlike Vintage Port, which is bottled after only two years in wood, LBV is bottled when fully mature. This Unfiltered expression is drawn into the bottle with no fining or filtration, preserving all natural aromas, depth, and concentration. Tasting notes Deep, inky purple at the core with a bricking red rim, the nose is rich and perfumed, revealing blackberry, wild plum, loganberry, and liquorice, along with cloudberry, raspberry, redcurrant, and subtle floral notes. The palate is layered with spice, brambles, Assam tea, traces of dark chocolate and cocoa, and a hint of herbaceous complexity. Silky tannins, excellent grip, and a fresh, bright finish complete this powerful and long-lasting Port. Food match LBV is perfect as a dessert wine or after-dinner treat. Decanting is recommended. It pairs beautifully with fully flavoured cheeses, particularly blue cheeses such as Stilton or Roquefort, as well as chocolate and berry-based desserts.
