Quinta do Panascal is a rich, velvety single-quinta Vintage Port, crafted entirely from grapes grown on the renowned Panascal estate. Located on the steep right bank of the Távora River, Panascal is celebrated as one of the finest vineyards in the Douro Valley, producing wines of voluptuous fruitiness, mouth-filling density, and velvety texture. This Port exemplifies the estate’s unique terroir, offering an approachable style while maintaining depth and complexity. Since acquiring Quinta do Panascal, Fonseca has invested extensively in the estate to revitalise the vineyards and ensure the production of top-quality Ports that complement their iconic blends. Production The grapes are carefully harvested and vinified to preserve the natural richness of the estate. The wine is aged in traditional large oak vats, allowing the fruit to integrate with the tannins, resulting in a concentrated and opulent expression of Panascal’s terroir. Tasting notes Deep purple in the centre with a violet rim, the nose is a lavish display of dense cassis, black cherry, molasses, and dark chocolate, evolving into damson, plum, aromatic herbs, black pepper, and sandalwood. On the palate, the wine’s lush fruitiness is supported by fine, close-grained tannins, delivering a full-bodied, textured experience. The opulent black fruit flavours are persistent, with a lift of zesty freshness on the finish. Food match Best enjoyed with walnuts, blue-veined or richly flavoured cheeses, and dried fruits such as apricots or figs. Decanting is recommended to reveal its full aromatic complexity.
