This concentrated and elegant Reserva Port is a premium Ruby style, crafted from carefully selected grapes and aged longer for added complexity. Smaller production and meticulous winemaking ensure a rich, opulent wine that highlights the Douro Valley’s finest fruit. Meet the producer Wiese & Krohn was founded in 1865 by two Norwegians, Theodor Wiese and Dankert Krohn, who initially exported Ports to Scandinavia. Today, the house continues to produce classic Ports that combine tradition with premium quality and consistency. Production Grapes are sourced from Krohn’s Quinta do Retiro Novo estate and neighbouring vineyards in the Rio Torto valley near Pinhão. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, interrupted by the addition of grape spirit to preserve natural sweetness. The wine is aged for 2 years in 547-litre oak barrels (the traditional “pipe”) and large vats, then bottled unfiltered to retain character. Tasting notes Deep red in colour, with rich, opulent plummy fruit and impressive depth of flavour. The palate showcases pure, youthful, and high-quality fruit, balanced by structure and elegance. Food match Best served after a meal with mature hard cheeses or desserts such as almond, chestnut, chocolate, or red fruit cakes. As it is bottled unfiltered, a fine sediment may develop.
