Meet the producer Founded in 1858, Marqués de Riscal is one of Rioja’s oldest and most respected wineries. The Marqués, inspired by his time in Bordeaux, brought French winemaking expertise to Spain, producing the first bottled Rioja in 1862. Over the years, the estate has earned international acclaim, including the prestigious Diploma of Honour at the Bordeaux Exhibition in 1895. Today, Marqués de Riscal continues its tradition of innovation from its iconic “City of Wine” complex, which includes a cutting-edge winery and a hotel designed by architect Frank O. Gehry. Production Grapes are hand-harvested from estate vineyards and vinified in stainless steel before ageing for 24 months in American oak barrels. The wine is then bottle-aged to develop balance and complexity while maintaining Rioja’s characteristic freshness and elegance.
