Domaine Papagiannakos Savatiano is a classic and expressive white wine from 50-year-old vines, showing the depth and complexity of Greece’s indigenous Savatiano grape. Meet the producer Founded in 1919, Domaine Papagiannakos lies in the Mesogaia plain of Attica, just outside Athens. Now in its third generation of family ownership, the estate is widely recognised for reimagining traditional Greek varieties with precision and elegance, bringing wines of authenticity and modern appeal. Production The grapes are sourced from seven blocks of 50-year-old, low-yielding, unirrigated Savatiano vines rooted in limestone soils on north-facing slopes at 100m altitude in Markopoulo. Hand-harvested in mid-September, the fruit undergoes a cool, controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 17˚C for around 20 days to preserve varietal purity and freshness. Tasting notes Perfumed and peachy on the nose with delicate floral aromas. The palate is broad and textured, combining ripe stone fruit with citrus zest, herbs, and a gentle saline edge. Complex yet refreshing, with a character reminiscent of Viognier’s aromatic richness and Semillon’s weight and length.
