About this wine

Quinta da Fonte Souto is a 207-hectare estate acquired by the Symington family in 2017 — their first vineyard outside the Douro. Nestled on the slopes of the São Mamede Range in Portalegre, at 500 metres altitude, the property enjoys cooler, wetter conditions than the Alentejo plain. These conditions, combined with mature, low-yielding vines, give the wines freshness, balance, and complexity. Winemaking Grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted before gentle crushing and light pressing in a pneumatic press, limiting colour and phenolic extraction. Fermentation occurred at low temperatures in stainless steel vats to retain purity of fruit and freshness. Malolactic fermentation was prevented to preserve crisp acidity. Bottled in January 2023. Winemakers Charles Symington, Pedro Correia, and Ricardo Constantino. Grape Variety 100% Aragonês, harvested early to preserve natural acidity. Ageing Vinified and aged entirely in stainless steel to maintain aromatic vibrancy. Tasting Note Aromas of raspberry, red cherry, watermelon, and subtle passion fruit. On the palate, vivid flavours of raspberry, pomegranate, and redcurrant are lifted by tangy minerality and fine acidity. The finish is crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced between lightness and complexity. Storage & Serving Best enjoyed young, ideally before the end of 2024. Serve chilled at 8–10°C.
