Scacciadiavoli was founded in 1881 and is one of the oldest and most revered estates in the Montefalco region of Umbria, combining over a century of tradition with considered modern winemaking. Their Montefalco Sagrantino is the estate's flagship wine and one of the most serious expressions of this extraordinary indigenous variety anywhere in Italy. Vineyard & Production Made from 100% Sagrantino grown in the Montefalco hills of Umbria, where the rugged, landlocked terrain and continental climate produce grapes of exceptional concentration. The grapes undergo an extended maceration of one month on skins, extracting the deep colour, firm tannins, and intense fruit character that define the variety. Fermentation takes place in large, old French oak vats, followed by ageing with 50% in barrel (15% new oak), allowing oxygen to gradually soften the powerful structure and integrate the tannins into a wine of genuine harmony and depth. The palate is full-bodied and commanding, with firm, well-integrated tannins complemented by ripe black fruit, mineral notes, wild herbs, and subtle spice.
