Blandy’s 10 Years Bual Madeira is a refined medium-rich Madeira showcasing the precision and heritage of one of the island’s most respected producers. Crafted from the Bual grape, predominantly sourced from the south coast of Madeira between Ribeira Brava and Calheta, this wine is the result of meticulous manual harvesting, traditional fermentation, and long, patient ageing in seasoned oak casks under the canteiro system. The blend has an average age of 10 years, displaying remarkable harmony between sweetness, acidity, and complexity. Meet the Producer Founded in 1811, Blandy’s remains a family-run producer and one of the founding members of the Madeira Wine Association. For over two centuries, the Blandy family has been dedicated to crafting world-class Madeira wines that capture the island’s volcanic terroir and oceanic climate. Under the guidance of Francisco Albuquerque, the winemaking team combines age-old craftsmanship with modern R&D to better understand and anticipate the nuances of Madeira’s ageing process. Production Grapes are hand-picked and undergo pellicular maceration for 4–6 days before fermentation at controlled temperatures between 18–21°C using natural yeasts. The wine is then fortified with grape spirit (96% v/v) to arrest fermentation at the desired sweetness level. Maturation takes place in seasoned oak casks for an average of 10 years under the canteiro system, where barrels are gradually moved through warmer to cooler ageing lodges to develop depth and balance. Before bottling, the wine is fined for clarity and precision. Tasting Notes A bright, crystalline golden-brown wine with golden reflections.
