The Mitchell family of Dublin originally marked their maturing casks with a daub of coloured paint to indicate age potential: Blue for 7 years, Green for 10, Yellow for 12, and Red for 15. Blue Spot disappeared for over 56 years before being reintroduced, reuniting the historic Spot family for the first time in more than half a century.
