Alomado refers to the rolling hills or "lomas" that mark the landscape of the Sonsierra Riojana, considered by many to the finest terroir in Rioja for cultivating Tempranillo due to the Atlantic weather, high altitude, and limestone rich soils. Alomado is Eduardo and Carlota's most Atlantic and accessible interpretation of a field blend planted on the Ábalos side of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. Floral and vibrant with beautiful red-berry and blue-fruit character. No excessive ripeness or heat. On the palate, the tannins are firm and structured but still quite fresh and fine-grained. Long finish. A field blend of tempranillo, viura, malvasia and calagrano. Drink from 2026. The 2022 Alomado is a single-vineyard wine from San Vicente where white varieties such as Viura, Malvasia, and Calagrano grow at the top of the vineyard, all of which figure into the Tempranillo-dominant blend here in small amounts. It's showing well in its youth, but clearly structured for aging, with a creamy texture and delicious tension. Gusto in style, it has big tannins, big acidity, and big oak, having spent 16 months in 500-liter French barrels, 30% new. The nose is pretty in violet and spring wildflowers as a full-bodied core of black cherry that glides along the palate with memorable finesse. Enjoy over the next 15-20 years. The 2022 Alomado was produced with a field blend of Tempranillo with some Viura and Calagraño from a vineyard called Finca Montecillo that was planted in 1980 on very stony soils. The destemmed grapes were co-fermented in concrete and matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for 16 months. It has notes of berries, herbs and some spices, vanilla and cinnamon, with a touch of smoke. It has controlled ripeness and comes in at 14% alcohol, and it has a medium to full-bodied palate, where the tannins are fine and the mouthfeel chalky and dry, with seriousness. Rating: 93+
