Drink it now or cellar for up to 20 years. No need to decant, but best to open it an hour before service. Spread across approximately 12 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, Domaine André Bonhomme was founded in Macon Viré in 1956 and produces some of the most prestigious wines in the Viré Classé appellation in Burgundy. The Chardonnay grapes come from a parcel in Epinet, in the northern part of the Viré Clesse appellation. Here the vines, planted in 1923, enjoy eastern exposure and a red clay soil with small calcareous stones on the surface. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts and the finished wine ages for about 2 years. The result is an elegant and complex Viré Classé with great aging potential. The wine, produced in limited quantities, has a golden color and some greenish reflections. On the nose, it reveals a broad and powerful aromatic profile, with notes of ripe yellow fruit, herbs, and hazelnut and a clear mineral and slightly smoky hint in the background. On the palate, it is powerful, dense and voluminous. It is balanced and fresh with a strong acidic vein and a pleasant citrus concentration. The finish is long and recalls herbaceous notes. It is excellent with shellfish, especially scampi and lobster.
