Joseph Drouhin Chambolle-Musigny 2018 is a refined expression of Pinot Noir from one of the most prestigious villages in the Côte de Nuits. Fine lace and silk are the words most often associated with this wine. The colour is bright and intense, with complex aromas of violet, black cherry, and damp earth, complemented in some vintages by notes of truffle and game. On the palate, refined tannins coat the mouth, offering a harmonious balance between texture and acidity, while the long aftertaste reveals lingering notes of cherry and candied fruit. Meet the producer Founded in 1880 by the 22-year-old Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin remains family owned and is managed today by the fourth generation. Véronique Drouhin serves as winemaker, Laurent Drouhin as brand ambassador in the USA, Philippe oversees the vineyards, and Frédéric “conducts the orchestra”. The domaine owns extensive parcels throughout Burgundy and in Chablis, including the world-renowned Clos des Mouches, one of Joseph’s earliest acquisitions. Their holdings span from Montrachet and Meursault to Corton-Charlemagne, Echezaux, and Clos de Vougeot, producing wines that range from village-level Bourgogne to Grands Crus in Musigny and Chambertin. Production Drouhin’s philosophy focuses on expressing the precise character of each terroir. Since 1993, all vineyards have been farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles. Vine stocks are propagated in-house to preserve genetic heritage and maintain quality. Ploughing is done by horse, with natural herb infusions used for treatments and biological predators for pest control. Vines are densely planted with deliberately low yields. Vinification is traditional, utilising indigenous yeasts and minimal technical intervention, adapted to the needs of each terroir. Wines are aged according to their origin: stainless steel vats for fruit-forward freshness in Chablis and Mâconnais, oak barrels to enhance complexity and finesse in the Côte d’Or. New oak barrel
