Drink now or cellar for up to 15 years. No need to decant before serving. Australia’s most legendary winery was founded in 1844 by Dr. Christopher Penfold and his wife Mary. Originally the couple made medicinal wines for Dr Christopher’s practice using vine cuttings they had brought with them from France. Penfolds’ modern history began in the 1950s with the arrival of winemaker Max Schubert who began to secretly develop the world-class fine wine known today as Penfolds Grange that would be capable of ageing for decades. As well as the iconic Grange, Penfolds also has a stellar reputation for their Bin wines which are made in strictly limited quantities. Bin 150 celebrates the unique terroir of Marananga close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor. Here the striking red soils and warm and sunny conditions help to produce rich and ripe fruit with plenty of power and strength. To enhance the beauty of the raw grapes and soften the punchy tannins the young wine is aged in a combination of American and French oak barrels for 12 months. Evocative notes of cassis, dark plum, black cherry, and blackberry immediately leap out of the glass followed by more aromatic undertones of tobacco leaf, cigar box spice, and leather. On the palate there’s a robust full body and well-developed structure that will help this bottle age beautifully in the cellar over the next decade or so.
