Cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. Located in the north-eastern corner of Tasmania in the Coal River Valley, Tolpuddle Vineyard is named after the Tolpuddle Martyrs, a group of farm workers who were shipped to Australia for the crime of forming a trade union. In 1988 Tony Jordan and Garry Crittenden recognised the viticultural potential of the area and planted a vineyard here. Current owners Martin Shaw and Master of Wine Michael Hill Smith purchased the estate in 2011 and have established Tolpuddle’s reputation for producing exceptional Tasmanian wines. The climate here is cool and dry with a long ripening season which helps to preserve freshness and achieve perfect balance in the grapes. Their Pinot Noir is made in an elegant Burgundian-style with plenty of elegance and poise. The grapes are all harvested by hand and fermented in whole bunches before the young wine is matured in French oak barrels for 9 months. The nose is an enticing blend of bright red fruit and hints of savoury spice from the whole bunch fermentation and oak ageing. The first sip reveals a medium body, bright streak of acidity, and vibrant core of red cherry and raspberry seasoned with dried herbs, toast and spice. The finish is long and clean with plenty of freshness, making this a great partner for game, roasted duck or charcuterie.
