The award-winning wines with the friendly duck logo, which are known far beyond national borders, come from excellent locations in California's Napa Valley. Duckhorn Vineyards is known for, among other things, fascinating New World Merlots. Wines from the Three Palms site, which is one of the best Merlot sites in North America, have won several awards. The winery also produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and a Bordeaux blend. The wine is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes that are barrel fermented and aged on the lees for 8 months to improve texture. The Decoy Chardonnay has a charming nose of ripe white peach, pear, and banana as well as green and yellow apple, white floral notes in the background, and a hint of spiciness coming from the wood aging. On the palate, the exotic fruit aromas continue, enhanced by light caramel, some vanilla, and a slightly more intense woody spiciness. The wine is rich, smooth and dense, with mature acidity which ensures drinking fullness and elegance. This is a modern take on the fat Chardonnay and a perfect accompaniment to lobster, fish, or chicken breast with sweet potato puree.
