Cellar for up to 12 years. Serve chilled. Grgich Hills is one of Napa Valley’s most famous estates thanks to the hard work and vision of Miljenko "Mike" Grgich. In 1976 the Chardonnay that he had made for Chateau Montelena beat many of France’s top white Burgundies at a blind tasting competition known as the Judgement of Paris. This unexpected victory proved that Californian wines could offer the same complexity and elegance as those made in Burgundy, and forever changed the perception of the region’s wines. Today the estate includes five prime vineyards which are farmed both biodynamically and organically. The winery is run on solar energy and every aspect of the vinification process is carried out in accordance with their strict minimal intervention philosophy. The wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and each lot is vinified separately before being blended and matured in oak barrels for a year and a half. The result is an opulent, full-bodied Chardonnay which opens with delicate aromatic notes of lemon zest, figs, and dried rose petals. On the palate there are rich tropical fruit notes, refined tannins, and a very long finish. The bold flavour profile of this wine make it a great match for decadent dishes like lobster, creamy pasta dishes, or chicken served in a rich creamy sauce.
