Bourgogne Blanc, Domaine de Montille 2023
"Young vines and parcels from Puligny-Montrachet lend floral jasmine notes and lime zest to this Bourgogne Blanc. Aged in 600L barrels with no new oak, it is bright and mineral-driven with a clean, fresh finish." Our note The 2023 vintage reflects a year of moderate warmth with consistent sunshine, leading to steady, well-paced ripening. Although temperatures weren’t extreme, the shift to warmer nights and milder days contributed to extended growing periods. This translated into wines that are strikingly fresh, with lower alcohol levels, vivid acidity, and vibrant character—brighter and more approachable compared to recent years. Whites carry their hallmark freshness and minerality, further underscored by the decision to reduce the percentage of new oak due to the larger volumes produced. The domaine features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine, and White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.
Louis Jadot Ladoix Le Clou d'Orge Blanc 2023
Louis Jadot Ladoix Le Clou d'Orge is a refined village-level Chardonnay from the northern edge of the Côte de Beaune, crafted by Famille Gagey of Maison Louis Jadot. The vineyard lies just north-east of Aloxe-Corton at the foot of the famed Corton hill, where gentle slopes, altitudes between 220 and 360 metres, and east to south-east exposure create ideal conditions for producing elegant, mineral-driven white Burgundy. Why You'll Love It This is village-level white Burgundy with real finesse refined, mineral-driven, and beautifully crafted by prestigious Maison Louis Jadot. Famille Gagey has cultivated this vineyard since 2007, and the vines are now around twenty years old, producing fruit of increasing depth and character. The soils are composed of clay and marls with a shallow, stony profile that encourages naturally low yields and fine concentration. Hand-harvested grapes are fermented in oak barrels from CADUS cooperage (one-third new) and matured for approximately 15 months on fine lees, gaining exceptional texture and complexity.
