Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari 2020
Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari is a polished, refined Bordeaux-style blend from Tuscany's prestigious Bolgheri DOP region. Crafted from vineyard blocks on the fertile hillside with loamy, clay-rich terre brune (dark brown earth) soils, this wine showcases the elegance and mineral character that define premium Bolgheri wines, with exceptional ageing potential through 2030. Why You'll Love It This is Bolgheri winemaking at its finest—polished, focused, and expressive with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity that promise excellent ageing potential. Produced by Gaja's Ca'Marcanda estate, one of Italy's most prestigious wine families, this wine combines Bordeaux varieties with Tuscan terroir to create something truly special. The harmony between vibrant acidity and refined tannins, along with 12 months in oak and additional bottle ageing, delivers exceptional quality and complexity. Vineyard & Production Sourced from vineyard blocks further from the sea, closer to the fertile hillside where loamy, clay-rich terre brune (dark brown earth) soils create round wines with mineral character. The 2020 vintage featured a dry winter, late frost challenges in March, and hot months with significant night-time temperature variations. Tramontana winds and heat peaks accompanied the grapes to full ripeness. The three varieties ferment and macerate separately for around 15 days, then age for 12 months in oak before blending and several months of bottle ageing before release. Tasting Notes Glowing and intense colour. Polished, refined, focused, and expressive with notes of eucalyptus, pepper, pine, and typical Mediterranean bush aromas. Fine-grained tannins surround a sleek core of black cherry, blackberry, and liquorice flavours, with fresh nuances gliding through a long, expressive finish. Perfect Pairings A perfect match for grilled meats, wild game, roasted lamb, aged cheeses, or rich stews. Also excellent with Florentine steak, venison, duck breast, or hearty Italian cuisine. Marques de Murrieta Gran Reserva Rioja 2016
Marques de Murrieta Gran Reserva is one of Rioja's most celebrated and long-lived red wines, produced by one of the appellation's oldest and most respected bodegas, established in 1852. Concentrated, refined and built for the long term, this is a Gran Reserva of exceptional quality from the legendary Ygay estate in Rioja Alta. Rated 98 points by James Suckling and 96 points by Tim Atkin. Why You'll Love It Founded in 1852, Marques de Murrieta is one of the founding names of Rioja, with a history and reputation that few bodegas can match. Their 300-hectare Ygay estate, surrounding the winery in the southern point of Rioja Alta, is one of the most important single estates in Spain, producing wines of remarkable concentration, elegance and longevity. The Gran Reserva is their benchmark expression, a wine that has been made in the same uncompromising style for generations and continues to set the standard for what Rioja can achieve. Vineyard & Production Sourced from the Ygay estate in Rioja Alta, with vineyards ranging from 320 to 485 metres altitude. The 2016 vintage was a warmer year that particularly benefited the higher altitude parcels, producing wines of concentration and richness with a fine line of acidity. Grapes are de-stemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 9 days with constant skin contact, with regular pumping over and punching down for gentle colour and aroma extraction. The wine is then aged for 27 months in 225-litre American oak barrels before bottling. Tasting Notes Over a base of balsamic aromas, hints of spice, ripe blackberries, cassis and figs, completed with mineral and light earth notes. Refined and lively on the palate, with a silky texture wrapped by polished tannins and a long, persistent finish of real elegance and complexity. Perfect Pairings A natural partner for grilled red meats, bellota ham and dishes with rich, fruity sauces. Also excellent with roast lamb, aged hard cheeses and hearty stews. Best serv
