Kilchoman Sanaig Single Malt Whisky

Kilchoman Sanaig is a richly layered Islay single malt whisky, distinguished by its high proportion of Oloroso sherry cask influence, which imparts depth, sweetness and complexity to the distillery’s signature coastal peat style. Named after a rugged inlet on Islay’s Atlantic coast, Sanaig reflects Kilchoman’s commitment to traditional whisky-making and local provenance. It is crafted from a vatting of approximately 70% Oloroso sherry casks and 30% bourbon barrels, resulting in a profile that is distinctly richer and more decadent than its sibling expression, Machir Bay. On the nose, Sanaig opens with fragrant heather, raisins, pear and orange peel, followed by waves of stone fruits, mixed spices and rich peat smoke. The palate reveals overripe plums, red cherries and hints of citrus, which give way to barbecue peat smoke, toffee, oak and dark chocolate. A mouth-coating texture delivers mixed fruit, caramel, cinnamon and clove, layered with brown sugar, warming spices and lasting sweetness. Kilchoman’s farm-to-bottle ethos ensures full traceability, with barley grown and malted on-site. Sanaig’s longer fermentation time and small-batch distillation contribute to its refined character, making it a compelling choice for those seeking a balance of sherry richness and Islay smoke. It stands as a core range release that bridges the gap between the lighter Machir Bay and the more intense Loch Gorm, offering a versatile and rewarding dram for both newcomers and seasoned whisky enthusiasts.

Lagavulin 8 Year Old

Initially released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Lagavulin distillery by John Johnston in 1816, this eight-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is big and smoky. A celebration of the people and craft that have made Lagavulin great over the last two centuries, its fragrant, tea-scented smoke alongside nose-drying, maritime aromas is unlocked with just a drop of water. Inspired by the visit of Alfred Barnard to the distillery in the 1880s when he tried an 'exceptionally fine' eight-year-old from the distillery, this is a fitting tribute for the milestone. With a light body that becomes pleasantly oily, the Lagavulin 8-Year-Old palate boasts a magnificently full-on Lagavulin taste that’s somehow even bigger than you expect. The limited-edition, beautifully pristine presentation box makes it the perfect gift for lovers of peaty and powerful whiskies.
