The Hedonist Organic Shiraz 2021
The Hedonist Shiraz Organic is a richly textured and expressive Shiraz from McLaren Vale, South Australia. Deep red with purple hues, it offers aromas of macadamia, poached rhubarb, liquorice, and a hint of clove. The palate is generous and complex, with fine, powdery tannins supporting a rush of ripe fruit and a structured, elegant mid-palate. Meet the producer Hedonist Wines is a boutique winery in McLaren Vale, committed to organic and biodynamic practices across their estate and sourced vineyards. The winery focuses on crafting wines that reflect the diverse soils and microclimates of the district, emphasizing balance, purity, and expression of terroir. Production Grapes are harvested and destemmed in stages from late February to mid-April. Fermentation occurs in open-top fermenters, with a portion of whole berries and a small selection of whole-bunch fruit. Malolactic fermentation and maturation take place over 15 months in a combination of French oak foudres and hogsheads of varying ages. The wine is unfined and unfiltered prior to bottling. Est. delivery in July, 2026 This is 100% estate-grown Tempranillo from five of La Rioja Alta's finest vineyards, aged for two years in American oak from the estate's own cooperage. The 2021 vintage in Rioja was exceptional - long summer days and cool nights allowed for gradual, even ripening. Rarely can wines under £20 a bottle pack so much interesting and complex flavour; notes of leather and cacao envelop a core of striking red and black fruit, with a classical Rioja structure that will age effortlessly and a drinking window to match.
