Producer profile Since the late 1980s, Abel Mendoza and Maite Fernández have quietly produced some of Rioja’s most honest, terroir-driven wines. Working with old vines on rugged, high-altitude slopes near San Vicente de la Sonsierra, their philosophy is one of restraint—eschewing heavy oak in favour of letting the vineyard speak. Every wine reflects Abel’s deep knowledge of Rioja’s diverse soils, yielding wines of character, precision, and authenticity. Viticulture & winemaking The grapes come from old vineyards on the edge of the Ebro Valley, rooted in clay, marl, and sandstone soils.
