Benriach 22 Year Old Albariza Peated Sherry Cask Finish is a mature Speyside single malt that brings together gentle peat smoke with the deep sweetness of a Pedro Ximénez sherry cask finish. Aged for over two decades, it shows the distillery’s ability to balance smoke, fruit and richness without losing clarity or elegance. The name Albariza refers to the pale, chalky soils of Andalucía where PX grapes are grown, and that influence comes through clearly in the whisky’s dark, sweet character. The aroma opens with warm, honeyed peat and soft earthy smoke, lifted by notes of dried fruits such as dates and raisins. Hints of chocolate, red berries, mint and light tobacco add depth. On the palate, the sherry influence leads with rich sweetness, offering flavours of dark chocolate, plums, rum‑soaked raisins and stewed apples. Cinnamon, gentle ash and an earthy, campfire warmth build in layers, supported by the whisky’s natural weight and maturity. The finish is long and warming, with lingering dried fruit, soft spice and a final wisp of smoke. Overall, this is a refined and expressive whisky that marries Benriach’s subtle peat style with the indulgent richness of PX sherry. It is complex without being heavy, offering a rewarding combination of sweetness, smoke and age that will appeal to anyone who enjoys sherried malts with a smoky edge.
