Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port is the house’s signature reserve, a wine that has carried its emblem since the early 1900s. The Six Grapes symbol itself dates back to the nineteenth century, when Graham’s winemakers would mark barrels with grape clusters to denote quality. Six grapes was the highest ranking, signifying Vintage Port potential, complexity, structure, and balance. Over a century later, this tradition continues in one of Graham’s most recognised and enduring styles. Meet the producer Founded in 1820 in Portugal’s Douro Valley, Graham’s is today owned and managed by the Symington family, who continue nearly two centuries of winemaking tradition. Six Grapes reflects the house’s dedication to quality and consistency, remaining one of its most iconic Ports. Production Six Grapes typically spends a shorter time in seasoned wooden barrels than most Reserve Ruby Ports, in order to preserve its vibrant blackberry fruit character and fresh aromas of cassis and liquorice. After vinification at Quinta dos Malvedos, the young wines are moved in spring to Graham’s lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, where they age for one to two years before blending. The blending team carefully matches each new lot to the established style, ensuring unwavering quality vintage after vintage. Once bottled, Six Grapes is ready to enjoy without the need for further ageing. Tasting notes Deep red in colour, the wine shows an alluring perfume of ripe plums and cherries. The palate is rich and complex, with supple structure, layers of dark fruit, and a long, lingering finish. Food match Best served slightly chilled at 12–16°C, Six Grapes is delicious with dark chocolate desserts or a board of mature cheeses. Once opened, it should be consumed within six to eight weeks. Grapes Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, with smaller proportions of Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão, Souzão, Tinta Francisca, and old field-blend varieties.
