The wine

Il Cascinone D'Annona Barbera d'Asti Superiore 2021 Wine (75cl) is recorded as a 2021 red wine made from Barbera in Piemonte, Italy.

Typical grape profile: Barbera — Bright cherry and plum with low tannin but vibrant acidity. The finished bottle can differ with vintage and winemaking.

Soil structure and vine density

No site-specific soil or planting-density record is available for this bottle.

Growing-temperature context

For general cultivar-level heat guidance, see the Barbera growing profile. BottlePicker does not apply a generic range to this bottle without a verified vineyard link.

What the official register confirms about Piemonte

BottlePicker found an exact region-name match in an official wine or spirits register. This establishes useful regional context; it does not by itself prove that this particular bottle is entitled to the designation. Check the producer label and specification for that claim.

Il Cascinone D'Annona is a single-vineyard Barbera d'Asti Superiore from the Monferrato hills of Piemonte, crafted from vines over 60 years old by winemaker Carlo Manera at the family-owned d'Annona vineyard. Opulent, silky, and beautifully structured, this is Barbera at its most serious and rewarding.

Why You'll Love It

Il Cascinone was acquired by Araldica in 1999 and has since become one of the Monferrato's most respected estates, renowned for its exceptional Barbera vineyards. The d'Annona vineyard, owned by Claudio and Lella Manera, is a single 3.5-hectare site with vines over 60 years old, producing fruit of remarkable concentration and complexity. Aged for 18 to 20 months in French oak barriques followed by a further 18 months in bottle, this is a wine that rewards patience and repays attention. Silver medal at the International Wine Challenge 2024.

Vineyard & Production

Grapes are hand-picked from the d'Annona vineyard in the Monferrato hills, then destemmed and crushed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel with pumping over four times daily. The wine is transferred to French oak barriques, two-thirds new and one-third one-year-old, for malolactic fermentation and 18 to 20 months of ageing, followed by a further 18 months in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes

Lifted aromas of cherry, baked earth, spice and violet on the nose. The palate is silky and concentrated, with sour cherry, herbs, leather and opulent black cherry fruit. Sweet, ripe tannins are balanced by refreshing acidity, finishing with lingering notes of dark chocolate and spice.

Perfect Pairings

A natural partner for Piemontese classics, carne cruda, lamb cutlets, grilled steak, and rich bean stews. Also excellent with aged hard cheeses and hearty braised dishes.
