The Mercurey Premier Cru Les Cinq 2023 embodies the finest expression of Château de Chamirey’s expertise. This exceptional cuvée does not come from a single climat, but from an extremely rigorous selection of the estate’s finest barrels. Created by Bertrand, Amaury and Aurore Devillard, descendants of the Marquis de Jouennes, this cuvée was born out of a desire to reveal the very best of the château’s wine-growing heritage. Only the finest 228-litre Burgundian barrels, sourced from each of the five red Premier Crus cultivated by the estate, are selected before being blended. This rigorous selection process results in a wine produced in very limited quantities, only when the quality of the vintage permits.

The Blend

brings together the five prestigious Mercurey ‘climats’ cultivated by the estate: Les Ruelles (Monopole), En Sazenay, Clos du Roi, Clos l’Évêque and Champs Martin.Each terroir contributes its own character: aromatic finesse, depth, structure, elegance and length complement one another to offer a remarkable balance that no single climat could express on its own. The 2023 vintage reveals a complex nose of ripe black fruits, cherry, violet and delicate spices, underpinned by perfectly integrated oaky notes. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and silky, carried by exceptionally refined tannins and a freshness that prolongs the tasting experience with a long, distinguished finish. Why is this cuvée rarer and more prestigious? Because it is the result of a double selection: first, of five premier cru classé terroirs, and then of the finest barrels from each of them. A significant proportion of the harvest is deliberately set aside in order to retain only the highest-quality batches. This exacting standard, combined with very limited production volumes, makes Les Cinq the flagship cuvée of Château de Chamirey and one of the most ambitious expressions of the Mercurey appellation.
