The 2020 Meursault Premier Cru Les Bouchères from Bouchard Père & Fils comes from a plot of around 38 ares, classified as a ‘Tête de cuvée' since 1855. Situated above Le Porusot, its limestone and marl terroir, neighbouring that of Les Genévrières and Les Gouttes d'Or, gives the wine remarkable roundness and power, whilst retaining a silky elegance. The harvest is entirely manual, using small 13-kg crates, with each bunch carefully sorted. Vinification takes place in two pressing stages, after which the wine is aged for 9 to 10 months in French oak barrels – up to 15% new barrels depending on the vintage – before a further 3 to 4 months of refinement in stainless steel vats. The ageing process benefits from the natural conditions of the cellars at the Bastions of the former Château de Beaune, which are ideal for Premiers Crus. This east/south-east facing Chardonnay expresses all the richness of its soil and develops a refined and complex aromatic profile, blending power, roundness and mineral finesse, typical of the great Meursaults.
