San Felice Poggio Rosso Gran Selezione is a fantastic 100% Sangiovese from the prized single-vineyard Poggio Rosso, displaying great purity of fruit and exceptional elegance. This is grown-up Chianti Classico at its most elegant and ethereal, representing the pinnacle of the appellation. Crafted by acclaimed winemaker Leonardo Bellaccini from 30-year-old vines, this wine showcases the finest expression of Tuscan Sangiovese. The Poggio Rosso vineyard (10 hectares at 390m elevation) benefits from limestone-rich soils and optimal south/south-east exposure. With 20 months in French oak casks and 12 months bottle age, this wine offers remarkable complexity, finesse, and ageing potential. Meet the Producer San Felice is an outstanding Tuscan winery that has pioneered key developments in the Chianti Classico region for the last 40 years. Based in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, the estate is committed to sustainable viticulture and producing wines that authentically express the terroir of Tuscany. Production Since moving to Gran Selezione status with the 2011 vintage, this wine is now produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes cultivated in the single, 30-year-old Poggio Rosso vineyard. The 10-hectare vineyard is at 390m above sea level and faces south/south-east. The soil is rich in limestone and loam. The vines are trained using the Guyot and Spurred cordon method. The grapes were fermented in contact with the skins for 20-25 days at 28-30°C, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in 500-litre French oak casks for 20 months.
