Elements, the inaugural release in a fresh series from Laphroaig, explores the various facets of the distillery's production that contribute to its distinctive flavour. This single malt, crafted entirely from Islay malt, showcases what can be accomplished through innovations in the distillation process, rather than relying on diverse cask finishes and maturation periods. The distillery team was granted creative freedom to produce something unanticipated, maintaining the quintessential Laphroaig profile whilst introducing new elements. Traditionally, the distillery employs semi-cloudy wort to achieve its hallmark fruity and smoky character. However, in this instance, the team opted for a 50/50 mix of fully and semi-cloudy wort, resulting in elevated tropical notes and phenolic intensity.
