The Alpha Box & Dice Blood of Jupiter is a pure expression of Sangiovese from McLaren Vale, crafted with energy, character and a modern Australian twist. For the first time in recent history, this cult wine is made as a 100% single-vineyard Sangiovese, showcasing both varietal precision and regional personality.
Meet the Producer
Alpha Box & Dice (AB&D) is a bold and experimental winery from South Australia, renowned for its eye-catching labels and adventurous spirit. Founded by a passionate and slightly unconventional trio, AB&D creates wines that honour European traditions while embracing creativity and innovation in every bottle.
Production
The fruit is sourced from the Paxton ‘Gateway Vineyard’, planted in 2005 in McLaren Vale’s sandy-loam soils over limestone calcrete. Grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed (with rollers out to preserve whole berries), and fermented with wild yeasts for 10 days on skins until dry. The wine then matures for 12 months on full lees in French barriques (35% new), followed by another 12 months ageing in cask for complexity and balance.
Tasting Notes
Expect aromas of Morello cherries, blood orange, dark chocolate, warm spices and dusty earth. The palate is soft yet full, with juicy fruit, fine tannins and a playful vibrancy that lights up every corner of the mouth. It’s a wine that pays homage to Italian heritage while expressing McLaren Vale’s unique terroir.
Food Pairing
Perfect with rare steak, slow-roasted porchetta, or aubergine parmigiana.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
