The Bottega Vinai Lagrein is a vibrant and food-friendly red from Trentino DOC, made from the indigenous Lagrein grape. Known for its rich bitter cherry and plum flavours with subtle spice, this wine combines structure, complexity, and Italian elegance. The 2019 vintage previously won three Harpers Wine Stars, including the prestigious “Star of Italy.” Meet the Producer Cavit is a leading cooperative in the mountainous Trentino region of northeast Italy. Established as a consortium of local growers, Cavit produces wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Valle del Sarca and the broader Trentino area.
Production
The grapes are grown on loose stony-limestone soils in warm, sheltered areas benefiting from winds off Lake Garda. Lagrein is traditionally vinified at 28–29°C with extended maceration on skins in small stainless steel tanks, then aged 12–14 months in barriques followed by 6 months in large oak casks, producing a concentrated and complex wine.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of spice, lightly smoked plum, red berries, and hints of chocolate. The palate is finely structured with supple tannins, bright acidity, and rich dark fruit. The finish is long, savoury, and accented by Lagrein’s signature bitter cherry note.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with grilled red meat, hearty stews, or pasta with rich meat or tomato sauces. Perfect for traditional Italian dining or special occasions.
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
