Les Coteaux Schisteux is a Grenache-driven, opulent red from Séguret, showcasing the finesse and purity of high-altitude Southern Rhône vineyards. With Grenache Noir (75%) and Syrah (25%), this wine delivers structure, elegance, and a long, satisfying finish, thanks to careful oak maturation.
Meet the Producer
Domaine Boutinot has been crafting wines in the Southern Rhône for over 30 years. Their philosophy combines minimal intervention in the vineyard, traditional vinification, and precise oak ageing to express terroir and varietal character.
Production
The grapes are sourced from east-facing, stony, argillaceous limestone terraces above Séguret, planted over fifty years ago. Hand-harvested in this challenging terrain, the Grenache and Syrah undergo traditional vinification with long cuvaison using wild yeasts and gentle remontage. The wine is matured for 22 months in French oak (an equal mix of 228L barrels and 600L demi-muids, previously filled) to integrate oak without overshadowing fruit purity.
Tasting Notes
A classic Séguret: opulent and polished on the nose with exotic spices, cigar box, cracked black pepper, and vanilla. The palate is smooth at first, then develops depth and texture as rich Grenache-led fruit swirls with subtle Syrah notes. The wine finishes with great structure, length, and elegance, leaving a lasting impression of harmony between fruit and oak.
Food Pairing
Pairs beautifully with hearty and richly flavoured dishes: Winter: Lamb tagine with couscous, beef casseroles Summer: Ratatouille with grilled tofu Anytime: Mature hard cheeses
Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
