Casa Ferreirinha Papa Figos is a fresh and vibrant red wine from the Douro Superior, crafted from Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. The grapes are sourced from high-altitude vineyards across the Douro Superior, with approximately 25% coming from the Quinta da Leda estate near the Spanish border. The vineyards are planted on predominantly schist soils, which fracture vertically, allowing vine roots to access deep water and nutrients.
Why You'll Love It
This is Douro red wine at its finest—fresh, vibrant, and beautifully expressive. Founded in 1952 by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, Casa Ferreirinha revolutionised Douro still wines and remains a standard-bearer for quality under the guidance of Luís Sottomayor. The estate spans 520 hectares across all three Douro subregions and is renowned for its meticulous vineyard management and production of complex, elegant wines, including legendary labels such as 'Reserva Especial' and 'Barca-Velha'.
Vineyard & Production
Grapes are sourced from high-altitude vineyards across the Douro Superior, with approximately 25% coming from the Quinta da Leda estate near the Spanish border. The vineyards are planted on predominantly schist soils, which fracture vertically, allowing vine roots to access deep water and nutrients. The 2023 vintage benefited from a rainy winter and mild spring, followed by warm, balanced summer conditions, resulting in grapes with high concentration, vibrant fruit and excellent ripeness. Grapes were hand-harvested and carefully selected, then gently destemmed and crushed. Fermentation and maceration took place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks with regular punch downs and pump overs. To preserve fresh, juicy fruit character, the wine was vinified without oak and matured in a combination of stainless steel and concrete vats. Light fining and filtration were applied before bottling to maintain aromatic intensity.

Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
