Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Douro Tinto is a refined and expressive red blend that embodies the essence of the Douro Valley's diverse terroirs and winemaking tradition. Crafted under the direction of winemaker Luís Sottomayor, this wine reflects the house's hallmark balance of elegance, freshness and depth—delivering an authentic expression of the Douro's complexity and charm.
Why You'll Love It
This is Douro red wine at its finest—refined, expressive, and beautifully balanced. Casa Ferreirinha was the first producer in the Douro Valley to focus exclusively on table wines rather than Port. Founded in 1952 by Fernando Nicolau de Almeida, the visionary behind the legendary Barca-Velha, Casa Ferreirinha revolutionised Portuguese winemaking. Named in honour of the iconic Dona Antónia Ferreira, a pioneering figure in the region's history, the estate continues to produce wines that capture the Douro's natural richness, restraint and refinement.
Vineyard & Production
The grapes for Vinha Grande are sourced from prime vineyard sites across the Cima Corgo (including Quinta do Seixo) and the Douro Superior (including Quinta da Leda). The warmer Douro Superior contributes structure and body, while the cooler Cima Corgo adds finesse and vibrant acidity. Soils are predominantly schist, a slate-like rock that fractures vertically, allowing vines to root deeply in search of water and minerals. Vinification takes place at the state-of-the-art wineries of Quinta do Seixo and Quinta da Leda. Grapes are destemmed and gently crushed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to ensure precise extraction of colour, tannins and aromatics. The wine is then matured in used French oak barrels for around 12 months, enhancing complexity and texture while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Evidence boundary
This page combines the recorded bottle identity with linked source records. An exact region-name match supplies regional context but does not prove that this bottle carries the protected designation. A vineyard is only shown as bottle-level evidence when a wine-to-vineyard link exists. BottlePicker does not infer a vineyard, soil or site climate from a retailer title.
